Multiple Response Answers with CPS RF

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Have you wondered how you might do a ranking or multiple response question with CPS?

Ben Booth, a teacher at Jordan Applied Technology Center in the Jordan School District, Utah, has used numeric question templates to generate multiple response answers. For example:

According to Nora Ephron’s book, I Feel Bad About My Neck, which TWO of the following are in the chapter, “What I Wish I’d Known”:

1. If the shoe doesn’t fit in the store, it’s never going to fit.

2. The empty nest is overrated.

3. Always make piecrust from scratch.

4. You can’t be friends with people who call after 11:00 p.m.

Answers: 1, 4 (2 and 3 are in there, but are say, “The empty nest is underrated.” and “There is no point in making piecrust from scratch.”)

To answer this correctly, the students will type in 14. Ben (who would not ask this question in his tech class; I’m just using this as an example because I just finished this book!) instructs the students to respond IN ORDER (14 instead of 41) so CPS will grade it correctly.

It is also important to note that teachers can always regrade questions after the session ends, in case someone typed in 41 and needs credit for that answer. Click on the Reports tab, choose the session, click on Edit and then Re-Grade questions. You can add alternate answers here.

I’ll talk about ranking questions in my next post.
