CPS and Math Instruction/Assessment
Thursday, November 30th, 2006Hello Shannon -
Today I received an email from Mr. S from Preston HS who asked: I teach math at the high school level, and was hoping you had some suggestions for me to get started. What kinds of resources are available specifically for high school level mathematics? How are other math teachers using the system? How can I get a copy of the sample ISAT Questions you were talking about last night?
Here was my reply: Congratulations on getting your new system! There are several math teachers in Idaho using CPS and I think most use it for assessment, guided practice, and with their other curriculum materials. A couple of AP calculus and statistics teachers use it for AP test prep everyday. With the multiple choice questions provided with their current materials, they just engage the Verbal mode of CPS and have students or groups of students respond to those ready-made questions. It certainly informs their instruction and keeps students involved.
I’ve attached a zip file of the sample ExamView questions we use in our CPS training and are included on our CPS Install CD under Sample Content/PDS Training. They are all math questions. (Unzip it and save the unzipped folder somewhere on your computer - you won’t be able to view the questions unless you actually install ExamView, but you can bring them into CPS) If you don’t know how to add ExamView files to CPS, be sure to watch the videos on that on our Video Page (click on Video A18). (For other teachers reading this blog who want the sample math ExamView questions, please email amy@blueclickers.com).
Also, you can download the ISAT questions. If that doesn’t work, I can send you a CD if you’ll send me your address.
To see if you have additional ExamView questions you can use, check out FSCreations and click on the 4000+ Titles link and search for your text book. If it is available, hunt through your textbook materials, call your curriculum director or publisher rep to see if you can get a copy.
